The body of a logger from Saint Monica Upper Pomeroon River was yesterday found after he went missing since Monday.
According to information, 64-year-old James George called ‘Honey James’ had travelled to Charity on Monday and was heading home when he stopped to consume alcohol with a friend at a shop about mile away from his home.
Speaking with Stabroek News, the daughter of the dead man, who did not want her name published, said she received news that her father was missing around 7 pm on Monday.
“My father left Charity and was coming home from work when he met a friend at St Monica. I was told that he left the friend he was drinking with and he said that he going home but he never reached home,” she said.
George was piloting a boat powered by a 15 horse power outboard engine which was later found capsized in the middle of the river a few minutes away from the shop where he had been drinking.
“My brothers were in the river around 6:30 to 7:00 when they met two other guys who told them that they saw the boat turn over in the river. They immediately went to check the boat and they saw the empty boat overturn but my father wasn’t in the boat. My brothers came and give us the news then they form a search party. They searched until 5 am but my father couldn’t be found,” she said.
The woman added that the search continued on Tuesday and early Wednesday morning.
“We decided to do a death announcement because in the river is not like on the road. There is nowhere he could have walk and go. My family came to grips with the fact that daddy drowned,” she added.
Minutes after submitting the death announcement to the television station in Charity, relatives of George received a call at around 1.40 pm yesterday informing them that his body was found floating in the vicinity of St Monica.
The police are conducting investigations.
