Investigations continue into the Sterling Products Ltd (SPL) raid, during which security guard Wilfred Stewart was killed and Chemist Mario Gohill injured, according to ‘A’ Division commander Clifton Hicken.
Stewart, 45, of Graham’s Hall was shot and killed by the bandits, while on duty at SPL Providence, East Bank Demerara on Monday around 6.45 pm.
When Stabroek News enquired about the progress of the investigation yesterday, Hicken said that the police are “still investigating.”
Gohill, 31, an Indian national attached to the company as a chemist, who was shot in the leg, is still recovering.
On Monday evening, according to the police who have since viewed the footage captured on security cameras, three men armed with guns entered the SPL compound.
According to reports, the gunmen forced their way in the compound, shot Stewart and proceeded to the accounts department. They were said to be after money they felt was kept there. However, after they realized that the safe which they were targeting was locked, they assaulted a female employee before making good their escape in an awaiting car.
