Alpha United continued their dominant showing in the Georgetown Football Association/Banks Beer Cup, hammering Northern Rangers 16-0 in their group fixture at the Camp Ayanganna ground on Friday.
With Northern Rangers starting the match with nine players and Alpha United in sublime form after their recording setting 17-0 win over Black Water, Dwain Jacobs would begin the decimation in the fifth minute with a strike to the right corner from within the left side of the area.
The goals would continue to flow as fullback Chris Camacho netted two minutes later, placing his left footed strike down the middle of the goal after receiving a left sided pass within the centre of the penalty box.
It would then become 3-0 one minute later as Travis Grant finished into the empty net from within the centre of the area, after evading the rushing keeper.
Daniel Wilson would then join the goal scoring feast in the 10th minute, compliments of a well-placed right footed attempt into the right hand corner, from outside the centre of the 18 yard box.
Wilson would then double his tally in the 14th minute with an easy right footed conversion into the empty net from inside the 18 yard area.
Recent acquisition Jacob Stephenson would then etch his name in the scorer’s sheet in the 23rd minute, compliments of strike from within the area into the centre of the goal.
Jahaal Greaves would then make his presence felt four minutes onward through a well-directed header into the right side of the goal, after receiving a right sided cross from a cornerkick just outside the upright.
The ‘Hammers’ would continue to put Northern Rangers to the sword as Aldair Paredes scored in the 33rd minute, lobbing his effort over the keeper into the middle of the goal from outside the centre of the area, after receiving a right sided pass.
It would go from bad to worse for the Kitty based side four minutes later as captain Jermin Willis was shown a red card for a dangerous challenge on Manuel Vargas in the centre of the field.
With the matchup clearly decided, Alpha would net a further eight goals in the second period. Wilson led the second half rout, completing his five goal spree with conversions in the 61st, 74th and 77th minutes, while Paredes netted a further two goals in the 49th and 56th minutes.
Also registering a second half double off the substitute’s bench was forward Manasseh Primo in the 75th and 84th minutes while Jacobs netted his second of the night, with a 63rd minute attempt to complete the score line.
Further misery would heaped on the losers as Deron Bowen was shown a straight red card in the third minute of extra time for a serious foul play on an opposing player. With the win, Alpha United sealed their berth to the knockout round with six points from two games.
They now faceoff with the Guyana Police Force (GPF) in their final group matchup. Northern Rangers, on the other hand, remain on zero points from two games and will be unable to qualify for the knockout stages. They will faceoff with Black Water in their final group fixture.
In the earlier matchup, GPF sealed their berth to the knockout round, arresting Black Water by a 3-0 score line. Andy Gillis opened the scoring in the 40th minute with a powerful strike from the left side of the penalty box that cannoned into the crossbar and settled into the middle of the goal.
Antonio Wallace would then increase their advantage compliments of a 68th minute conversion, powering his right footed effort into the right hand side of the goal from outside the left half of the penalty area.
The win would then be sealed as Rawle Haynes found the back of the net 12 minutes later. Due to the win, GPF move to six points from two games, while Black Water remain on zero points from two matches.
