A 40-year-old mother of two remained in critical condition up late last evening after she was severely chopped, allegedly by her husband at the Patentia, West Bank Demerara home they shared.
Injured is Indira Kumdyal, a sales clerk who works at a city store. She sustained three chops and was up to press time receiving medical attention at the Georgetown Public Hospital.
Her alleged attacker, a taxi driver, was taken into police custody and is assisting with investigations.
The woman’s older sister told Stabroek News that sometime yesterday afternoon her sister and the father of her two children were involved in an argument and he chopped her about her body.
She said she did not know the cause of the argument as she lives at another village, Belle West, which is also located on the West Bank of Demerara.
She said she received a phone call that her sister’s husband had “chopped her up” and that she should rush to the West Demerara Regional Hospital.
The woman explained that her sister was seen by medical personnel there but was subsequently transferred to GPHC because of the seriousness of her injuries.
Kumdyal began a relationship with the man three years ago after she returned from Trinidad having left her husband.
Her relationship with her alleged attacker seemed to always be one of abuse as her sister said every time she was beaten the man would beg saying that he would change and “everything would be back normal,”
She is the last of four girls. Police are investigating the incident.
