Dear Editor,
I’m would like to bring a problem to your attention that is getting out of control in my community of Aranaputa Valley, which is situated in the North Rupununi, Region 9.
The problem is that young men and boys are smoking a prohibited drug, to the extent that people sell it and smoke it as if it’s legal. The police here do nothing when it is reported to them. Could the Commissioner of Police not increase Force strength in that area, patrol on a more regular basis and investigate this matter so it could be stopped? If a couple of persons smoking or selling the drugs are caught by the police, put before the magistrate’s court and jailed, then I think it will make a difference. As a concerned resident I would like to see something done as early as possible.
The police at Annai Police Station don’t follow up reports made by the public, and I think that this is also one of the issues contributing to these drug dealers getting out of control.
I’m begging the government to please act very soon.
Yours faithfully,
