A Corriverton man was yesterday charged with the possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking when he appeared in the Whim Magistrate’s Court, before Magistrate Rabindranauth Singh.
Forty-four-year-old Collin Park pleaded not guilty to the charge after it was read by Magistrate Singh and was remanded to prison. The charge stated that on December 11 at Number 77 Village, Park had 36 grammes of cocaine in his possession.
The unrepresented Park, when given the opportunity to speak, maintained his innocence. He told the court that on the day in question police stopped him on the road and carried out a search on him and “did not find anything”. He also claimed that the lawmen harassed him and tore his clothing. He claimed too that he had $2,000 worth of lottery tickets that he could no longer find after the search was carried out.
However, the facts presented in court by Police Prosecutor Sergeant Phillip Sherriff differed. He stated that the accused was driving motor vehicle PLL 3085 when he was stopped by police. Park acted in a suspicious manner, the prosecutor said, and was instructed to drive to the Springlands police station. There, a search was carried out and they found a transparent plastic bag with suspected cocaine in the accused pants’ crotch, the court was told.
Park is expected to return to court on January12 for statement and fixtures.
