A drunken brawl between two women at Imbamadai, Cuyuni-Mazaruni yesterday afternoon ended in one being hospitalized and the other in police custody.
The woman hospitalized in a critical state has been identified as Florenza Grant, while the other identified as Clara Abrams is in police custody.
According to reports, at 5pm the women, residents of the community, were both imbibing alcohol when an argument ensued. It is alleged that Clara picked up a bottle and threatened Florenza. Sometime after that argument, it is alleged that Florenza then grabbed a bottle, broke it and slashed Clara in her stomach.
However, she was treated by medical officials in the area and sent away.
Reports also suggest that bouts of teasing caused Clara to return to Florenza, grab her by the head and allegedly drag her through a window, slamming her head to the floor, resulting in her becoming unconscious.
Relatives of the hospitalized woman said that she was air-dashed to the city and is now responding. They further mentioned that the woman is still being treated as critical, since she suffers from high blood pressure.
