JOHN’S, Antigua, CMC- Former Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda, Sir Lester Bird, is among five former athletes inducted into the country’s new Hall of Fame.
Bird, a former national long jump champion, was inducted during an award ceremony by the Antigua & Barbuda Athletics Association (ABAA) at the Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Ground last weekend.
Only last month, at the height of independence celebrations, the former two-term Prime Minister was presented with Antigua and Barbuda’s highest award, Knight of the Most Exalted Order of National Hero (KNH) for his contribution to national development.
The other Hall of Famers are, former ABAA president Rupert Lake, former 400 metre and 400 metre hurdler, Fred Sowerby, former athlete and administrator, Wesley Barrow and ex national discus thrower, Henry Greaux.
The five inductees were among 10 former national athletes and administrators honoured at the ceremony at the Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Grounds.
