Magistrate Annette Singh remanded a Golden Grove man charged with damaging 16 glass windows valued $100,000, when he yesterday appeared in the Georgetown Magistrate’s court.
It is alleged that between January 1, 2010 and December 11, 2014 at Georgetown, James McCalman, 44, of Lot 1269 Golden Grove, East Bank Demerara, unlawfully and maliciously damaged 16 glass windows, removable property of a private nature belonging to the Guyana Human Rights Association.
“I did it cause it was a matter of saving me life,” the man said in his defence. He pleaded not guilty when the charge was read to him in court 11.
Prosecutor Adduni Inniss had no objections to bail. However, McCalman was remanded to prison and is expected to make his next court appearance on January 6.
