During 2014, the Guyana Relief Council (GRC) aided 45 families (188 persons) who were affected by fires.
A release from the GRC yesterday said that two families comprising 14 persons were also helped following high winds. Further, there were 46 cases (368 persons) of those in difficult circumstances who were helped. Assistance was also provided to six organisations.
Meanwhile, the release said that on December 10, 2014 at a simple ceremony, the Guyana Relief Council Shelter was renamed for its long-serving head Yvonne Hinds. It is now known as the Yvonne Hinds Home of Hope.
The GRC held its final fundraiser for 2014 – a Silent Auction on 3rd, 4th, and 5th, December, 2014. The GRC said that with donations from kind supporters this event was a success.
During this holiday period, the GRC said that when children are at home they must always be properly supervised.
The release said that the GRC office will be closed for the holidays from December 19, 2014 to January 7, 2014.
