A young Alberttown woman succumbed at the Georgetown Public Hospital on Wednesday twelve days after she underwent a caesarean surgery and delivered a healthy baby boy.
Stabroek News was told that the mother whose name was given as Kianna Richmond died in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) where she was being treated post-surgery.
In a statement yesterday, the GPHC said “Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) wishes to advise that a patient passed away on Wednesday December 17, 2014 after surgery to deliver her baby.”
Further adding “The pregnant woman was admitted to GPHC on December 7, 2014.
Upon discerning a severe condition, doctors immediately performed a lower segment caesarean section and bilateral tubal ligation.
She was transferred to the Intensive Care Unit on December 8, 2014 and subsequently died on the 17th.”
The hospital has said that the baby is in good health and has been discharged from the hospital. It expressed sympathy to Richmond’s family.
An autopsy is to be done to ascertain the cause of the woman’s death.
