GDF ambushes Flamingo FC

The Guyana Defence Force (GDF) maintained their perfect group-D record in the Georgetown Football Association (GFA) Banks Beer Cup, crushing Flamingo FC by a 6-2 margin on Wednesday at the Camp Ayanganna ground.

Eusi Phillips opened the scoring for the home side in the 20th minute with a powerful right-footed effort into the left side of the goal, from outside the box on the right side of the field.

Their advantage would then be doubled two minutes onward as Delwyn Fraser netted, chipping his right-footed attempt over the opposing custodian from within the penalty area.

Desford Williams would then make it 3-0 in the 39th minute compliments of a skilful solo effort, skipping past the challenges of two defenders before finishing his effort into the right-hand corner from inside the 18-yard box.

The resumption of the second half would witness Williams sealing his double in the 52nd minute with a strike from within the right side of the box into the right-hand corner of the goal.

Orlando Ricketts would eventually pull one back for Flamingo one minute later, turning and shooting his first time strike into the back of net after pouncing on a defensive error within the 18-yard area.

Flamingo would then cut the deficit to two in the 68th minute as Ryan October found the back of the net, lashing his right-footed shot into the lower left corner from within the right side of the box, after stealing the ball from an opposing defender.

However that would be closest Flamingo would get to staging a comeback as Fraser scored his second of the evening in the 89th minute, finishing down the centre of the goal from within the area following a one-on-one situation with the opposing custodian.

Fraser would then complete the score line in the 90th+2 minute compliments of a right-footed shot into the lower right-hand corner from within the left side of the penalty box. With the win, GDF move to six points from two games while Flamingo remain on zero points from two matches.

Meanwhile Pele FC also continued their unbeaten run in the group, downing Black Pearl FC by a 4-0 margin in the opening matchup of the night. Kerwin Benjamin led the winners with a double on either side of half time in the 29th and 70th minutes.

He was assisted by Jumane Somerset and Godfrey Powers who completed the win with goals in the 30th and 52nd minutes correspondingly. Due to the victory, Pele move onto six points from two fixtures whilst Black Pearl remain pointless from two matchups.

The action is slated to continue today at the Tucville Community ground with a doubleheader. In the opening matchup, Northern Rangers will face off with Black Water FC from 18:30hrs in a group-A encounter while group leaders Alpha United will lock horns with the undefeated Guyana Police Force (GPF) from 20:30hrs.
