High Stars FC secured their berth in the next round of the GT Beer sponsored Upper Demerara Football Association knockout tourney after upsetting Kwakwani Strikers 4-3 Friday at the Mackenzie Sports Club ground.
A penalty kick converted by Sherlock Adams in the 12th minute gave Kwakwani Strikers the early lead. However, Tony Adams would quickly level the score line for High Stars, netting two minutes onward. Kwakwani would then retake the advantage in the 25th minute as Dale Sauers opened his account.
The back-and-forth nature of the fixture would continue in the second period as Colin Davidson levelled the scores once more for High Stars in the 49th minute. Nonetheless the lead would change once more as Sauers netted his second to push Kwakwani back in front. Julian Davidson would then make his presence felt in the 81st minute, restoring parity to the showdown for High Stars compliments of a penalty kick conversion.
With only a few minutes remaining in regulation time, Davidson would find the go-ahead winner seven minutes later through another penalty kick effort to steal the unlikely victory.
In the second matchup, Topp XX FC blanked Snatchers FC of Lethem by a 5-0 score line.
Shawn Daniels broke the early deadlock for Topp XX as he netted in the third minute. Veteran utility man Travis Watterton would then make it 2-0 as he found the back of the net 20 minutes later. The score line would continue to balloon four minutes onward with Terrence Aaron netting.
Watterton would then complete his double on either side of half-time compliments of a 69th minute conversion. The lopsided encounter would then be sealed in the 76th minute through a Quacy Johnson effort. The action is slated to continue at the same venue tomorrow with another doubleheader.
