Human Services Minister Jennifer Webster said the $494M Hugo Chavez Centre for Rehabilitation and Integration in Region Five has been helping to enhance lives, noting that the 30 indigent persons who were recently transferred to the facility are thriving.
The centre which was commissioned in 2013 at the cost of over $494M has to date, recruited 23 staff members who are manning the facility, a report from the Government Information Agency (GINA) said. In September, 30 residents of the Night Shelter comprising 25 men and five women were relocated to the Onverwagt facility. They have been able to access counselling and are engaged in agriculture and aquaculture farming.
Webster revealed that the ministry hopes to transfer 70 others there next year as it can comfortably accommodate a total of 180 persons. Quarters have been set up to house 100 men and 80 women. The ministry also plans to provide technical and vocational training for persons housed at the facility.
