Andre McPherson was yesterday remanded to prison after he was slapped with three separate charges of armed robbery.
The charges against McPherson, 29, of Tucville Housing Scheme, is that on September 2 at Lamaha Park, being armed with a gun, he robbed Marcia Duke of one cellular phone and a quantity of jewellery amounting to $160,000.
The second charge read on the same date, being armed with a gun, McPherson robbed Wendy Griffith of one television valued $140,000.
And lastly it is alleged on September 2 also, being armed with a gun, McPherson robbed Alicia Browne of $10,000 cash.
He was not required to plead to the indictable charges read to him by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court 1.
Prosecutor Michael Grant objected to bail based on the nature, gravity and prevalence of the offences and also due to the fact that a firearm was used. Grant added if bail was granted to McPherson he might not return for trial, since he gave the police a different address from the one he provided to the court.
On the day in question, the victims who live together were at home when it is alleged that McPherson entered their house, pulled out a gun from his pants’ waist and demanded the articles mentioned in the charges. He later made good his escape. However, sometime after a report was made, an ID parade was conducted where McPherson was positively identified by the victims and subsequently charged.
With tears in his eyes, McPherson pleaded with the court for lenience saying he has five children but he was remanded to prison.
The matter is adjourned to January 19 where McPherson will appear before Magistrate Judy Latchman.
