Rodrigues-Birkett mum on possible prime ministerial candidacy

Minister of Foreign Affairs Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett on Monday opted not to address any possibility that she may be offered the prime ministerial position at the upcoming general elections.

She said that such a decision is not hers while stressing that she is very comfortable with her current portfolio.

Questioned during her end-of-year media briefing about her availability to serve Guyana at a higher level such as the role of prime ministers, an upbeat Rodrigues-Birkett said that things happen on a daily basis.

Asked if she was offered such a position if she would turn it down, she responded “I don’t know…Those types of decisions are not decisions made by myself….” She added that right now she is having a “really good time at the Foreign Affairs Ministry.”
