Caribbean Airlines (CAL) has announced a revised schedule that will be implemented from January 15 to February 4, 2015.
According to a press release, the popular Georgetown/New York route is being increased to daily non-stop flights in both directions. Meanwhile the Toronto-Georgetown 2 non-stop flights per week will be terminated effective March 1, 2015 and replaced by a daily through flight in both directions.
CAL said too that that a new daily non-stop between Trinidad and New York featuring the first wide-body aircraft on the route, will be timed to provide an end-of-business day flight to the Big Apple. This will increase the flights on that route to 3 daily non-stops in each direction, making it 48 per week – more than triple any other airline.
The release said Caribbean Airlines is also expecting major cost savings from this schedule which will be more efficient and will see better utilization of its 737 and 767 fleets.
CAL is the first airline in the world to rescind the fuel surcharge and is buoyed by the steep decline in its number one expense – aircraft fuel, the release said. CAL said it was confident that this new schedule will build on the airline’s goal to achieve profitability.
Meanwhile, it announced that the improved schedules go hand-in-hand with various product enhancements seen this past year such as improved in-flight entertainment with new wall-to-wall screenings of the latest Hollywood releases; introduction of free digital headsets in all classes; a complimentary rum cocktail courtesy of the world-famous El Dorado Rum and Nestle Orchard; and hot meals on longer flights.
Meanwhile CAL had also recently announced a change in its policy from two to one free checked-bag, with the second attracting a fee.
In early 2015, the release said, digital in-flight entertainment players will be installed in the entire 737 fleet to improve the quality of screenings.
Meantime, referring to its ‘12 days of Christmas’ promotion, the airline said that between Monday and today; and January 1 to 3, 2015, one passenger on each of 25 randomly selected flights will receive a ticket to a Caribbean Airlines destination of his/her choice. On January 4, it will supersize the surprise and gift three passengers four tickets each to any Caribbean Airlines destination. In addition, each prize winner will receive Trini fruit cakes courtesy of Kiss Baking Company, who partnered with Caribbean Airlines to showcase the true spirit of Christmas.
“We were inspired by the idea of connecting family and friends during this season of giving, which is at the heart of what we do”, said Alicia Cabrera, Senior Marketing Manager, Caribbean Airlines. “The gift of travel is our way of giving back to our customers who have supported us throughout 2014. It is our hope to create unforgettable moments during these 12 days of Christmas,” the release quoted her as saying.
