It what can described as another chapter in their recent rivalry, Slingerz FC will oppose Den Amstel in the finale of the Vitamalt/Aqua Mist sponsored West Demerara Football Association Knockout Cup tomorrow at the Den Amstel ground from 20:30hrs.
Slingerz sealed their berth to the final in uninspiring fashion, defeating a very compact Pouderoyen unit by a 1-0 score line. Captain Tichard Joseph has been the brightest jewel in the Slingerz crown to date and proved to be the difference on the semi-final night.
However, with Den Amstel a different proposition all together especially on home turf, the Vergenoegen giants will need an improved showing from the likes of Anthony Abrams, Devon Millington, Colin Nelson and Deon Charter, if they are to emerge victorious.
Despite the unfortunate ending of their semi-final matchup with Uitvlugt due to lighting disagreements, Den Amstel will start the fixture the more settled of the two units following comprehensive victories in their respective outings.
The home side have easily been the more clinical unit of the two, netting a total of 15 goals to date in the event against six goals scored by their antagonists.
It is in this vein that Den Amstel will be confident of securing their first competitive win over the Vergenoegen unit and will require another composed attacking display from the trident of Delon Lanferman, Andre Hector and Travis Hilliman if the win is to be realized.
In the third place playoff, Uitvlugt Warriors will lock horns with Pouderoyen FC from 18:30hrs. Noted for their defensive capabilities after only conceding once in the event, Pouderoyen led by the likes of Clement Brown, Delon Garraway and Tenie Lopes will attempt to maintain their current trend and secure the victory when opening whistle sounds.
Uitvlugt Warriors on the other hand will be eager to rebound from their disappointing semi-final exit from the event and will look to Seon Bobb to marshal the attack, when kick off time approaches.
Winner of the event will pocket $1,000,000 and the championship trophy while the runners up will receive $500,000 and the respective trophy. The third positioned side will collected $300,000 whilst the fourth placed unit will walk away with $200,000.
