Twenty-six-year-old Reena Singh died during the early hours of Christmas morning when the driver of the car she was travelling in lost control and smashed into the veranda of a house at Adventure, Essequibo Coast causing a utility pole to injure her.
Singh of Cornelia Ida, West Coast Demerara left home on Christmas Eve for the Essequibo Coast in order to spend the holidays with her friends but didn’t get to as planned.
When Stabroek News spoke with the dead girl’s aunt, Gail Sahadeo of Dr.Miller Street, Triumph, East Coast Demerara, she said that she was not at the scene where the accident occurred but from information received she heard that Singh along with two other friends were travelling in a car. Singh was seated in the back seat when the driver lost control of the car causing him to skid off the road. As a result, he ended up in a yard and ran into the veranda of a house in Adventure.
Sahadeo said she also learnt that the driver of the car broke one of his legs while the other girl who was seated in the front seat sustained no injuries. She added that from the information she received thus far, Singh was injured to her head.
According to Sahadeo, she got a call from Singh’s sister-in-law just around 2:00 hrs on Christmas morning saying that she had gotten into an accident around midnight and she would be leaving for the Georgetown Public Hospital Incorporated on the next ferry. However, Sahadeo later received another call saying that Singh had died.
