A Perth man died after a collision with a Toyota Tundra vehicle on Christmas Day.
According to information, 19 year old Davendra Jaipaul called ‘Davin’ of Perth, Essequibo Coast was riding his bicycle along the Exmouth Public Road when he was hit by a vehicle traveling in the opposite direction.
This newspaper was told that the man who was heading to his grandmother’s residence at around 7:00 pm on Thursday, was riding on the left lane of the road when a Tundra owned by a popular businessman swerved into the path of Jaipaul causing him to collide with the vehicle.
The man and his bicycle were flung some distance away to the corner of the road. Stabroek News was told that the driver of the vehicle fled the scene but returned an hour later with the police.
Upon hearing the impact, relatives of Jaipaul who live nearby rushed to the scene of the accident and the man was picked up and taken to the hospital.
Speaking with Stabroek News, Priya Mulchand the cousin of Jaipaul said that the police visited the area on Friday morning even though they were informed of the accident on Thursday night.
“When they were taking the body to the hospital, they (Jaipaul’s mother) stopped at the Anna Regina Police Station and the police did not even look at the body. I believe that if the man who was driving picked up Davin, he could have still been alive.”
Investigations are being conducted into the matter.
