The woman who jumped to her death off the Demerara Harbour Bridge (DHB) on Christmas Eve has been identified as Felicia Hussain of Diamond Housing Scheme.
Hussain’s sister Gwendolyn Lowden, who identified the body, said Hussain had been battling with mental illness and might have suffered a relapse. She said that Hussain who lived with her mother, was last seen at by relatives at 11 am, when she left home.
According to reports, on December 24, at approximately 1pm, Hussain was seen jumping into the Demerara River, minutes after she had walked onto the bridge.
A source had told Stabroek News that the woman’s body was pulled out of the river after an alarm was raised and placed into a boat under the bridge. The source added that she was clad in a pink top and long blue denim jeans. This newspaper understands that the woman’s handbag and shoes were found on the bridge.
A post-mortem examination will be performed on Hussain’s remains on Monday.
