A search team is currently looking for an Islander plane after it went silent about ten minutes after takeoff from Mahdia to Karisparu in Region 8 around 11:45 am this morning.
The flight time from takeoff to landing is approximately 25 minutes.
The aircraft, with registration number 8R-GHE, is one from the fleet of Air Services Limited and Manager of the company Annette Arjoon Martins told Stabroek News that her team is currently mulling their next move.
“We don’t have communication with it at the moment so we won’t say it is missing as yet. We have our team here and are looking at the next move,” she said.
Stabroek News understands that the plane is captained by pilot Nicolas Persaud called Nicky and also has on board a cargo handler called `Porter Boy’. The plane was shuttling mining cargo from Mahdia to Karisparu and had onboard fuel, jet parts and zinc sheets among other items.
