The Guyana Defence Force (GDF) clinched their spot in the semi-final round of the Georgetown Football Association Banks Beer Cup defeating Sunburst Camptown 2-0 on Friday at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) ground.
Centre half Selwyn Isaacs opened the scoring for the army unit as he found the back of the net compliments of a 26th minute conversion. The hard-fought win would then be sealed in the 89th minute as Delwyn Fraser etched his name on the scorer’s sheet.
With the win, GDF will now faceoff with Pele FC in the semi-final section today at the same venue from 18:30hrs after the latter squeaked past Riddim Squad by a 3-2 margin in their quarterfinal showdown.
Similarly clinching a berth to the final four was Western Tigers who trounced the Guyana Police Force (GPF) by a 7-0 margin in the opening showdown of the night.
Phillip Rowley opened the scoring for the winners as he found the back of the net in the 25th minute. Joshua Britton would then open his account as he netted four minutes later. The lead would balloon to 3-0 as Britton completed his double with a 38th minute conversion. He would then complete his hat-trick compliments of a 50th minute effort to make it 4-0. Randolph Wagner would then get into the scoring act as he found the back of the net in the 64th minute.
It would then become 6-0 six minutes onward as Andre Webber netted. Completing the score line with a 76th minute attempt was Marvin Joseph. In the second semi-final matchup, inaugural tourney winners Alpha United will lock horns with Pele FC from 20:30hrs. Due to the win, Western Tigers will now match skills with inaugural winners Alpha United in the feature semi-final fixture today from 22:30hrs.
The grand finale is slated for January 1st 2015 at the National Stadium in Providence.
