East Coast of Demerara giants Victoria Kings were sent packing from ECFA/EDFA/BFA Stag Beer knockout tourney losing to Ann’s Grove by a 5-4 score line on sudden death kicks on Friday at the Victoria Community ground.
With a winner unable to be found after normal and extra time finished nil-all, the initial penalty shoot-out would fail to separate the two sides with the score finishing on 4-4. However Ann’s Grove would prevail in the sudden death round, netting from the spot as the home side missed from the distance.
Due to the win, Ann’s Grove will now faceoff with Cougars FC in the semi-final round today at the Buxton Ground from 20:00hrs after the Berbice unit edged Mahaica Determinators by a 3-2 score line in the opening fixture of the night.
Quincy Holder initially gave Mahaica Determinators the halftime lead as he found the back of the net in the 40th minute. However the Berbicians would net three goals in the space of 14 minutes to wrestle away control of the fixture.
Rod Crandon began the comeback as he levelled proceedings six minutes into the second half period. He would then give Cougars the lead for the first time in the fixture compliments of a 54th minute conversion.
The lead would then be increased by two goals as Sherwin Parris etched his name on the scorer’s sheet in the 65th minute. Mahaica Determinators would eventually pull within striking distance of the Berbice unit as Azuma Roberts netted his first in the 80th minute.
Nonetheless Cougars would hold on in the remaining minutes to seal the come from behind victory. The opening semi-final will witness Grove Hi-Tech tackling New Amsterdam United from 18:00hrs.
