Defending champs Winners Connection survived an early scare to clinch their berth in the semi-final round of the GT Beer sponsored UDFA Cup, overcoming Botofago by a 3-1 margin on Friday at the Mackenzie Sports Club (MSC) ground.
Falling behind to a 49th minute effort from Mark Hope, Winners Connections would level the score line in the 80th minute as veteran playmaker Rawle Gittens scored. Gittens would then net his double to give the defending champs the lead five minutes onward.
The hard-fought come from behind win would then be completed one minute before the end of regulation time compliments of a Delroy Dainty conversion.
Winners Connection will now faceoff with Eagles FC in the semi-final round today from 19:00hrs at the same venue after the latter clawed their way past Silver Shattas by a 1-0 score line in the second showdown of the night.
Romain Adams was difference on the evening as he netted through a first half strike in the 41st minute. The second slated semi-final affair at 21:00hrs will pit traditional heavyweights Topp XX against tourney surprise package High Stars.
