Dear Editor,
Have you ever sat down and asked yourself: What if?
I did it on Christmas Day.
What if I wasn’t born poor and in a poor country?
What if my father didn’t abandon me?
What if Elaine Bovell didn’t take me in her home and raise me?
What if I didn’t drop out of school and what if I didn’t go back to school?
What if I didn’t get an education?
What if I didn’t go to America?
What if I didn’t become a Christian?
What if there were no God or heaven?
What if I didn’t meet Patricia Williams (my mentor)?
What if I didn’t join the military?
What if I didn’t get injured in Iraq?
What if I didn’t have to live with the demons from combat?
As we begin a new year, let us take some time to reflect upon where we have come from.
