Joshua Eze Franklyn, 45, the main suspect in the Tuschen triple murder was yesterday charged along with his son, Jimmy Franklyn, 19, at the Vreed-en-Hoop Magistrate Court with the capital offence.
They were charged with three counts of murder and are scheduled to return to the Leonora Court on March 11. Attorney Satesh Kissoon entered an appearance for the duo.
The court heard that at 3584 Tuschen Housing Scheme around 1 am on December 18, they murdered Bibi Zalima Khan, 55, of Endeavour, Leguan, her granddaughter, Ashley Boodhoo, 9 and Floyd Drakes, 30, an upholsterer.
They reportedly attacked Khan, the first victim, in the living room, as she was about to escape. She was lashed first with the machete before being inflicted with the deadly blows with the cutlass.
She had left her home in Leguan two weeks before to take care of her daughter’s children who hid in a bedroom under the bed during the ordeal.
Ashley, however, had opened the door and run out and when her siblings tried to stop her she responded that she was “going to look fuh mommy.”
She was then hacked her to death, sustaining wounds to her head, abdomen, back and hands.
Drakes was then badly chopped while trying to flee. Post-mortem examinations proved that the victims died as a result of multiple incise wounds.
Reports are that they also attempted to murder Franklyn’s reputed wife, Geeta Boodhoo, 30, who was severely chopped during the attack and is still hospitalized. They are likely to face charges for that offence shortly.
