Linden man charged with knife-point robbery on Christmas Day

Twenty-year-old Jamaike Brummell was yesterday remanded to prison after he denied the charge of armed robbery on Christmas Day read to him.

The charges against Brummell, of 2236 Central Amelia’s Ward, Linden is that on December 25 at Central Amelia’s Ward, being armed with a knife, Brummell robbed Latoya Carol of one Samsung Galaxy Tablet and a quantity of cash, amounting to $38,000.

He pleaded not guilty to the charge read to him by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court 1.

According to Prosecutor Micheal Grant, on the day in question, at about 20:30hrs the victim was on the way to a shop for her mother when Brummell approached her, placed a knife to her neck and took away the articles mentioned in the charge.

Grant added that Brummell was charged and convicted before for an offence of a similar nature and also has pending matters before the court. Brummell denied this by saying “this is my first time in court, I never come before.”

The matter was transferred to the Linden Magistrate’s Court for January 6.
