The police have charged six more men with drunk driving after they were stopped and found to be over the legal limit between December 7 and December 14.
According to a police press release, two of the men who reside at Skeldon, Corentyne, Berbice appeared in court on December 11 and pleaded guilty. Andrew Peters of Lot 24 Line Path and Mohamed Shakur of Lot 38 Line Path were fined $7,500 each. Peters was stopped and tested with a breathalyzer on December 7 while driving PPP 9403 on the Scottsburg Public Road, Corentyne, Berbice. Shakur, 35, was driving HC 3993 along the same road on the same day police said.
Meanwhile, Chairam Conno of Crabwood Creek, Corentyne, Berbice, was stopped and tested with a breathalyzer on December 8, while driving PPP 3271 on the Springlands Public Road, Corentyne. The police said he was charged. However, when he appeared at the Springlands Magistrate’s Court on December 19, he pleaded not guilty. His case is continuing.
Three other men have had arrest warrants issued for them after they failed to appear in court on their appointed dates. Mansorr Slikhan of Lot 12 Vergenoegen, East Bank Essequibo was stopped and tested with a breathalyzer on December 14, while driving PNN 6342 along the Leonora Public Road, West Coast Demerara. Police said he was charged with being above the legal limit but failed to appear at the Leonora Magistrate’s Court on December 16.
Similarly, Shirk Goindalall, 22, of Lot 38 Leonora Public Road, West Coast Demerara, was stopped and tested with a breathalyzer the same day. Police said he was driving PLL 1674 also on the Leonora Public Road and faced the same charge as Slikhan.
Meantime, Rudolph Marshall, 40, of Lot 4 Hand en Veldt, Mahaica, East Coast Demerara, was stopped and tested with a breathalyzer on December 11 while driving BNN 1797 on the Weldaad Public Road, West Coast Berbice. He was also charged with being above the legal limit in terms of the consumption of alcohol, but failed to appear at the Blairmont Magistrate’s Court on December 15, the police said.
