Entertainment promoter Colin Mack found himself before the court again yesterday, this time facing a charge of abusing his reputed wife.
Mack, 43, appeared before Magistrate Zamilla Ally in the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court charged with assaulting his live-in partner Angela Cato, who was also counter-charged with assaulting him.
The 2049 Festival City, North Ruimveldt resident, who is on bail on a rape charge pending trial in the High Court, denied hitting Cato.
Mack said Cato was in the company of people he disliked and they were drinking. This aggravated him and he demanded his jewellery from Cato and was greeted with a spit in his face. Cato, who showed up late for court, told Magistrate Ally, when asked the reason for her lateness, “I didn’t really want come.” The stunned magistrate asked Cato if she had filed charges against Mack and if those charges were brought before the court.
She replied, “Yes.” The magistrate then told her that she was obligated to be there and could not just withdraw since the case was already in court.
The woman pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Bail was set at $10,000 for both accused and they were bonded to keep the peace.
