Artist and theatre personality Collette Jones-Chin has quite a lot cooking over the upcoming weeks.
From Friday, March 28 to Friday, April 4 she will present a visual arts exhibition under the title “Images en Poésie Èclairer L’âme” which is French for “Spoken Images of the Soul”, at Moray House, Camp Streets.
Eleven paintings will be on display showcasing some of the artist’s philosophies on life and spiritualism. She hopes to target art buyers, enthusiasts, students of visual arts and any interested person. There will be poetry reading, dance and a special video graphic exhibition of her students’ work. Local designer Carol Fraser will also be there highlighting ‘one of a kind’ hats and bags.
The next dish Collette will serve up is the play The 11th Finger written by Dr Janice Imhoff. Collette directs the play, which revolves around love in all its forms, lies, deceit and self-realisation. The 11th Finger highlights the strengths of women, especially those who are ‘over the hill’ but for the comedic principles it answers the question: Is a woman really too old for sex and love at the age of 70? Finger stars Ron Robinson, LaVonne George, Simone Dowding, Sonia Yarde, Sheron Cadogan-Taylor and Mark Kazim.
It will be staged at De Impeccable Banquet Hall from April 11 – 13. Show time is 20:00 hrs on Friday to accommodate a gala cocktail from 19:00 hrs and the following two days the play commences at 19:00 hrs.
Collette said the audience can expect stunning performances by classic actors and have their emotions be taken to places they are afraid to go. They will laugh, cry, empathise, sympathise and have fun.
Admission is $3,500 on the first night and $2,000 the following nights. Tickets are available at Shantel’s Exotic Creations and Side Walk Café, Georgetown.
Collette will next tempt audiences’ palates with Francis Quamina Farrier’s The Tides of Susanburg, which she will produce and direct.
This play will be staged at the Theatre Guild from April 25 – 27 and stars Sheron Cadogan-Taylor, Henry Rodney, Simeon Dowding, George Brathwaite, Sonia Yarde, Nicola Moonsammy, Andre Phillips, Carlene Samuels and Charisma Jones-Chin.
As with Finger, a gala cocktail is planned for Friday evening from 19:00 hrs with admission costing $2,500 and $1,500 the remaining nights.
