Twenty-four-year-old murder accused, Donald Calender, is the latest guest of the state after he was remanded to prison when he appeared before Magistrate Sunil Scarce on Wednesday at the Anna Regina Magistrate’s Court.
The man was not required to plead to the indictable charge of murder read to him and he was not represented by an attorney in court.
It is the prosecution’s case that on December 26 at Good Hope, Essequibo Coast, Calender stabbed and killed 32-year-old Vibert Benjamin.
The police say that Benjamin and Calender had an argument in the wee hours of Saturday morning after Benjamin alleged that Calender was having an affair with his wife and confronted him.
An argument and a fight ensued between the two which resulted in Benjamin being fatally stabbed.
Both Benjamin and Calender were rushed to the Suddie Public Hospital where Benjamin succumbed to his injuries while Calender was admitted as a patient under police guard.
After being remanded to prison by the Magistrate, the man was ordered to return to court on January 22 for commencement of the preliminary inquiry.
