Chief Education Officer Olato Sam is back in Guyana and recuperating after a brief stint in Barbados for medical treatment.
This is according to a ministry source who further said that the Ministry of Education was informed of his return some time during the holidays. The source said Sam had gone to Barbados after being released from a local hospital in early December.
Sam was reportedly admitted to the undisclosed Barbados hospital for further treatment and evaluation. According to sources, he had been suffering from “disturbingly high” blood pressure levels.
However, reports indicate that Sam is much better now and is just trying to take things slowly.
In late November, Sam was admitted to a city hospital in a critical condition and had been in the intensive care unit (ICU) for several days before he was moved from it and eventually released.
Education Minister Priya Manickchand had told this newspaper that Sam would be given time to rest if required.
