Devendra Hansraj, the suspect who was wanted for questioning in the murder of his reputed wife, Mohanranie Udaraj of Crabwood Creek was arrested on Friday at Moleson Creek.
Commander of ‘B’ Division Brian Joseph yesterday told Stabroek News that they were able to arrest the suspect after police intelligence worked on a lead that they got from their investigations. He also stated that, Hansraj, 43, called ‘Dog Man’ is likely to face a murder charge on Tuesday.
Following the lead, officers went to Moleson Creek and arrested the man in a farm house around 4.30 pm.
Udaraj, called Sherry, 28, of Lot 17 Grant 1780, was found at home lying in a pool of blood with stab wounds to her neck on December 18, 2014. She was pronounced dead on arrival at the Skeldon Hospital.
The mother of the deceased Sandra Vasquez told Stabroek News that neighbours informed her that Hansraj, who they heard had fled to Nickerie, Suriname, returned to the community after the fatal stabbing and made it known that he had unfinished business. She said her family was living in fear.
A post-mortem examination performed by government pathologist Dr Vivekanand Bridgemohan revealed that Udaraj died from the stab wounds to her neck. She was found lying in a pool of blood after her landlord noticed a liquid dripping from the upper flat. The police found her lying face down near a bedroom door with injuries to her neck.
Udaraj leaves to mourn her only child, Riya, parents, sibling and other relatives and friends.
