Top domino teams from across the country will from today begin competing in the Georgetown Domino Association (GDA)/Mark Wiltshire dominoes tournament at Faye Joseph’s residence, Gaulding Place, South Ruimveldt.
The competition, played in honour of senior organizing secretary of the GDA Wiltshire’s 60th birth anniversary will see the winning team receiving $200,000 and a trophy when the lucrative event concludes on 18th January at the Malteenoes Sports Club (MSC).
The runners-up will receive a trophy and $100,000, third place a trophy and $50,000, fourth place a trophy and $20,000 and fifth place a trophy and $10,000. The best female player will take home $5,000, the player sharing the first love will receive $3,000 and the player sharing the first double love in the play offs, $5,000.
Teams are allowed to re-enter the competition once.
Teams from Bartica, Essequibo Coast, East and West Coast of Demerara, East and West Bank of Demerara, Mahaicony, Mahaica, Berbice and Georgetown are expected to compete in the competition which has a $10,000 entrance fee.
F and H Printing Establishment has thrown its support behind the competition and manager of the entity Hazim Hakh said they are pleased to be associated with the event. Showing his gratitude to F and H, Wiltshire thanked Hakh and stated that the competition is expected to be keenly contested. He is asking that teams be registered as early as possible to ensure a prompt start.

Meanwhile, TNT, with a total of 41 games won the Mark Wiltshire four-game dominoes title when the event concluded recently at R and R venue in Meadowbrook.
TNT’s victory was inspired by Shawn Morgan (11 games) and Ryan Boodhoo (10 games) while Wiltshire and Clarence Whitehead also scored 21 games for Mix Up who finished in the runner up position with 32 games. Sparton placed third with 30 games.
Kanhai Samaroo who recorded 10 games and Leroy Edwards eight led the way for Sparton.
Mix Up chalked up 41 games to win the semifinal encounter which was contested on Boxing Day at Strikers venue. TNT placed second with 35 ahead of OPKO WITH 29.
The winning team received $60,000 and the runner-up $20,000.
