Devendra Hansraj, who allegedly knifed his common-law wife to death at their Crabwood Creek, Corentyne, Berbice home last month, was read a murder charge yesterday, just days after being nabbed by police.
Hansraj, 43, of Lot 17 Grant 1780, Crabwood Creek, appeared before Magistrate Charlyn Artiga at the Mibicuri Magis-trate’s Court. He was not required to plead to the charge that on December 18, 2014, he murdered Mohanranie Udaraj, also called ‘Sherry.’
Hansraj, who was unrepresented, was remanded to prison until February 5th, when the matter will be called at the Springlands Magistrate’s Court.
Commander of ‘B’ Division Brian Joseph had told Stabroek News the police were able to apprehend Hansraj after following a lead. Officers went to Moleson Creek and arrested the man in a farm house last Friday afternoon.
Sandra Vasquez, the mother of the deceased, had said neighbours informed her that Hansraj, who they heard fled to Nickerie, returned to the Crabwood Creek area and made it known that he had unfinished business.
Udaraj was found dead with stab wounds to her neck at the home she shared with Hansraj.
