Teril James, accused of stabbing another man to death at a shop where they were drinking at Aracru, North West District on Old Year’s night, was yesterday remanded to prison after being arraigned for murder.
The allegation against James is that on December 31, at Aracru, he murdered Augustine Samuels, 52, also known as “Jack.”
James, who was unrepresented by an attorney, was not required to plead to the charge after it was read to him by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
Although no further details about the fatal stabbing were presented to the court by Prosecutor Michael Grant, police had previously reported that Samuels and another man were drinking at a shop when the suspect became involved in an issue with the owner of the shop. The owner of the shop managed to escape and the suspect attacked Samuels and stabbed him about his body. Samuels was later pronounced dead on arrival at the Mabaruma Hospital.
The matter has been transferred to the Mabaruma Magistrate’s Court, where it will be called on January 16.
