The Guyana Elections Commission (Gecom) is currently engaged in a “crucial” fingerprint cross-matching exercise of its existing National Register of Registrants (NRR) and new applicants, as it prepares to produce the Preliminary List of Electors (PLE).
According to a press release yesterday, the Gecom Secretariat is conducting a thorough analysis of the fingerprints of registrants on the NRR, applicants for new registration and new databases to guard against multiple registrations. On completion of this exercise, the Commission will produce the PLE which will be used in the Claims and Objections exercise relative to the holding of General and Regional Elections.
Gecom urges all persons who will be eligible to vote at the upcoming elections to check the extracts of the PLE that will be displayed in their respective communities to ensure that their details are accurate and apply for registration/change/corrections/ transfers during the Claims and Objections exercise, where necessary.
Gecom also said logistical and administrative preparations have long begun in earnest for the professional and transparent management of elections. The Commission now awaits the President’s announcement of the date of both elections, after “meaningful collaboration” with Gecom.
