Dear Editor,
I am 82 years old and have been a resident of Region Eight for over sixty years now.
Editor, in my entire life in this region this is the worst I have ever seen the inner Mahdia roads. I can recall during the colonial days and those of the PNC these roads were in a far better condition, despite the workers having to repair these roads manually since they were no modern machines at that time.
Also government used to collect very little revenue from this region.
Editor, it is ridiculous to know that this government is collecting billions of dollars from this region and has refused to spend any of it on repairing these roads. I was told that the council has submitted in their 2014 budget an item for money to repair these roads; however, none was granted by the Ministry of Finance.
And to add insult to injury, the region’s equipment that was used to repair these roads years ago before this present REO came here is not being used. It is parked in the yard of a supporter of the ruling party in Campbelltown.
Editor, why is this government punishing the people of Region Eight? Is it because of how they voted in the last elections? I am calling on the parliamentary opposition parties to please look into this for us.
Yours faithfully,
Joseph Smith
