The Ministry of Health yesterday handed over an ambulance bought at the cost of $11M to the Georgetown Public Hospi-tal Corporation’s (GPHC) Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) team.
GINA said that this team has been complementing the services offered at the hospital over the past year. It was set up in February 2014, after the technicians underwent training in Emergency Response. The GINA release said that members have thus far responded to approximately 3000 emergency calls from all parts of the country.
In 2014, the team delivered the first baby in an ambulance in Guyana, GINA said. It also delivered three other babies, before reaching the hospital, including a twin delivery. Members of the unit have also delivered multiple sick patients to the emergency room and who needed immediate care.
GINA said that recognising the hard work of the team, Health Minister Dr Bheri Ramsaran stated his gratitude to the technicians and the Director of the Accident and Emergency Unit at the hospital, Dr. Zulfikar Bux.
To express gratitude for the work carried out by the team, the members were treated to breakfast, the release said. Following the breakfast, a trophy was presented to the team. Ron Morris, Training and Development Officer, Emergency Medical Ser-vices was also presented with a trophy, as he was recognised as the best performing EMT in 2014.
