Inaugural Stag Beer Super 16 champions Grove Hi-Tech officially received their prizes yesterday from beverage company ANSA McAl at a simple presentation ceremony held at the entity’s Beterverwagting headquarters, East Coast Demerara.
Representing the East Bank Football Association (EBFA), Grove Hi-Tech clinched the $1,500,000 first prize and championship trophy after crushing the East Demerara Football Association side Ann’s Grove 5-0 in the finale. Ann’s Grove for their showing walked away with $500,000 and the respective trophy.
The Berbice Football Association (BFA) club New Amsterdam United who defeated fellow Berbice unit Cougars 5-1 to clinch the third position received a $300,000 prize and the respective trophy while Cougars walked away with $100,000 and the corresponding accolade. In the individual section, Grove Hi-Tech’s Domini Garnett walked away with the most valuable player award and $25,000 for inspiring his team to the title. He also jointly received the event’s highest goal scorer accolade and $25,000 along with Adrian Adams of New Amsterdam United, for scoring nine goals. In addition, Rondell Alleyne received the best goalkeeper award and $35,000 after only conceding twice throughout the event.
ANSA McAl Managing Director, Beverly Harper said the company is delighted to be associated with the venture and thanked the three competing associations for allowing them to facilitate the tourney. Harper said the tournament has started a trend that can be augmented and thanked all the stakeholders for collaborating to make the event a success.
At the close of the prize giving exercise, ECFA Organizing Secretary Joseph Wilson thanked the sponsors for their support of the sport and hoped that the relationship between the entity and respective associations continue to grow.
