Newly appointed Ombudsman Dr Winston McGowan who was tasked with overseeing the elections of the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) said his only duty is to organize and conduct the poll.
“My only duty is to organize and conduct the election in accordance with the Cricket Administration Act,” McGowan said yesterday, one day after Head of the Presidential Secretariat Roger Luncheon announced his appointment during a press briefing.
McGowan who is also a pastor, said his first step is to determine the process procedures to govern the elections. “My first step is to meet with the three county boards to hear their concerns and make recommendations, before calling the election.”
He also revealed that while a timeframe has not been set for the elections, he expects it to be valid, according to the Cricket Administration Bill (CAB). “The time frame for the election is based on the consultation meetings with the boards,” the former University of Guyana History Professor said.
McGowan’s appointment came in the wake of the crisis between the current GCB executives and stakeholders of cricket, who wrote to parliament seeking a resolution to the problem, allowing the CAB to be introduced into law.
