Dear Editor,
Even as his village council seeks to have him removed from his hometown for talking back to ‘Daddy’, Teacher John Adams of Aishalton Village has become a hero to many Guyanese.
His courage to stand up to the government and fight for his rights has struck a powerful chord in many of us who have seen the exercise of power by this government reach dangerous levels.
With elections around the corner will Teacher John Adams become the face of the oppressed and engineer political change? He had the courage to stand up for his rights in the face of oppression from the government and even his own people, but he has stood his ground and fought on.
I know that when I go to cast my vote I will remember the courage and bravery shown by Teacher Adams. There are many of us who have been in a similar situation as Teacher John, but for fear of retribution or victimization, suffered in silence. We may never have the courage of Teacher John but at least our vote will be in solidarity with him.
Yours faithfully,
