Dear Editor,
I read in your edition of January 10 a letter by Doreen de Caires expressing her difficulty, nay consternation, at Republic Bank’s request for character references, ID, proof of income, etc, to a 75-year-old woman who has been dealing with the bank for over 50 years. In fact only a few days ago a similar request was made by the same bank to my mother, who is about 10 years older. The bank is fooling no one other than themselves that this is to fight “money laundering.” This is the definition of tomfoolery.
Yours faithfully,
Howard Bulkan
