Maikoo wants bigger, better Stag Beer Futsal tournament this year

Newly crowned Georgetown Football Association (GFA)/Stag Beer Futsal champs Alpha United, officially received their prizes yesterday from Beverage Company Ansa McAl at a presentation ceremony held at the entity’s Beterverwagting headquarters. The ‘Hammers’ secured the title following a nail biting 5-4 win over Riddim Squad in the final, clinching the $250,000 first prize and championship trophy. Riddim Squad for their showing walked away with $150,000 and the second place accolade.

Similarly receiving prizes were Western Tigers who defeated Santos FC by a 5-1 margin in the third place playoff. The Tigers for their efforts pocketed $100,000 and the corresponding trophy while Santos received $50,000 and a trophy.

On an individual note, Travis Grant of Alpha United was adjudged to be the event’s most valuable player while Dorville Stewart and Amos Ramsay of Riddim Squad received the best goalkeeper and highest goal scorer accolades respectively.

Ansa McAl Public Relations Officer (PRO) Darshanie Yussuf said “Thanks to the GFA for giving us the opportunity and teams for making it a huge success.”

Yussuf added that while the company is known for its contributions to the field aspect of the game, they needed to give the players different opportunities so they are well-rounded.

“Congratulations to Alpha, Riddim Squad, Western Tigers and Santos, these are teams you often hear about and it was great to see them play in a different format which shows they have great potential,” she declared.

John Maikoo, Stag Beer brand representative thanked the GFA for affording the company the opportunity to be a part of such an amazing tournament while stating that the company will continue to focus on this area of the sport.

“We hope we are given the same opportunity in 2015 to make the event bigger and better and we look forward for your continued assistance.”

Otis James, GFA Competitions Coordinator said it was a remarkable year for the sport within the association and he hopes the relationship between the two entities can continue to prosper.

James further thanked the participating teams for contributing towards the staging of the tournament while declaring “It was a challenging tournament and we hope to do it again bigger and better in 2015”.
