In a further sign of the weak market for hotels and office space, the modern building at Camp and Lamaha streets which was completed in 2013 is up for rent.

Originally, the tenants of the building, New Thriving Restaurant had planned an eatery and a hotel at this location. However in the last year or so New Thriving appears to have abandoned the hotel idea. New Thriving is continuing with its restaurant plans but is now preparing to sublet the rest of the modern five-storey edifice. New Thriving has rented the building from businessman Patrick Sukhlal.

An advertisement in today’s Kaieteur News said that the building was ideal for embassies, call centres, and corporate offices. It is described as approximately 40,000 square feet, with an elevator, central air conditioning unit with energy saving VRF Technology, a conference room and data and phone network access. It also says that it has parking for 800 vehicles. This may suggest that the parking lot is the embankment running along Lamaha Street. The building also has a generator with an ATS system, a pressure pump with a water filtration system and an independent electrical and data room. In October 2013, New Thriving had spoken about plans for a hotel and restaurant. The restaurant was to have been opened early last year but this did not materialize. Instead, New Thriving has rented out the ground floor for parties and banquets.
