Dear Editor,
It is always a joy to know that we think globally for a healthy relationship with other countries. This also reduces the tension with other counties and builds bridges between borders.
It was a joy for me to read in our Indian newspapers about President Donald Ramotar’s visit to India. There are two things that make Guyana proud, one of them being our President receiving the prestigious Pravasi Bharathiya Samman award from the Vice President of India. This award is conferred on people of dignity who are of Indian origin. Speaking at the ceremony the Vice President expressed his interest in building the nation in collaboration with other nations.
The second thing is – and this may be of more interest for our nation – the grants given by the Indian Government to two different projects, apart from the pilot projects which have been planned. First of all there is US$50M for the East Bank Demarara Road project and secondly US$8M for the acquisition of the ocean ferry vessel. This is something to be admired, reflecting the relationship which these two countries enjoy. Hopefully these projects will soon materialise and can found a healthy relationship with India. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been thinking globally in his administration.
These kinds of initiatives must be encouraged without leaning towards any party, because this must be work of and for the people, not for any party. This also must encourage us as Guyanese to build our nation with a positive mindset. I appeal to every one of us to contribute to building our nation.
Yours faithfully,
JM Dias
