President of the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) Drubahadur, paid a visit yesterday morning to the Guyana Jaguars at the Windjammer hotel before the national side winged out for Trinidad & Tobago in its quest to win the NAGICO Super50 2015 title.
In his address to the team, the GCB president cautioned the players not to be complacent at any point in the competition.
“Guyana Jaguars team is a balanced, strong, talented and reliable one; they can destroy any team, but it is important not to take that for granted. I know you are confident which is good but stay focused on each ball of every match and do not underestimate any player or any team you are competing against,” he said.
Drubahadur reminded the players that Guyana started off this format strongly last year but faded away and lost in the semi-final. He stressed that if they start on top again, it is essential that they do not become over-confident and get carried away and if they are not victorious in their opening match, they have to believe in themselves, regroup, correct what they did wrong and continue to fight.
He stated that the GCB has high expectations of the team and fully supports them adding that he believes the entire Guyana is rallying behind them as well.
He welcomed Jonathan Foo back to the national squad and wished him a successful tournament and he also congratulated Vishaul Singh on his debut to the limited overs version for Guyana, noting that he has been one of the success stories of cricket in Guyana lately.
He challenged Singh to stay focussed and mark his place in this format of the game as well.
Guyana Jaguars is in Group A. In the preliminary round, they will play Windward Islands tomorrow, Barbados on Saturday and the Combined Campuses and Colleges team on January 19.
