KINGSTON, Jamaica, CMC– Jamaica’s netball chief, Marva Bernard, says she was “embarrassed” by the power outage which forced a premature end to the second of a three-match test series between the Sunshine girls and England’s Roses.
The outage was sparked by a power surge which occurred with England leading by eight points with 75 seconds remaining.
Both teams agreed to call off the contest with the score 55-47.
“I was embarrassed, because this tour has been very challenging for us and the English, and to add a power outage at that time was just another challenge,” said Bernard, the president of the Jamaica netball Association (JNA)
“However, the good thing is the game was so far advanced that we could easily call it in favour of England. Had it been otherwise, it would have been seriously problematic. I am just happy that lights went at a time when the match was already decided”.
Independence Park Limited (IPL), which operates the National Stadium complex, said even if a generator was in place, it would have taken between 7-10 minutes to return power which may not have been within the international standard time of 10 minutes
Both teams are using the series , which is tied one all, as part of their preparations for the 2015 World Netball Championships, which will be held in Sydney, Australia, in August.
