Golden Jaguars International Chris Nurse said he is very excited about the future of Guyana’s football programme following the recent appointment of Guyana Football Federation (GFF) Technical Director Claude Bolton.
Canadian by birth but of Guyanese parentage, Bolton was appointed to his second stint on January 10 by the GFF Normalization Committee, replacing Mark Rodrigues who previously held the post under the Christopher Matthias administration.
He formerly held the position under the Colin Klass administration during the period of 2000-2001. Bolton’s appointment was also precursor to former coach Jamaal Shabazz being appointed to the head coaching post of the Golden Jaguars senior side.
Speaking exclusively with Stabroek Sports, the London native said:”I am very excited for Guyana?s football under the leadership of Mr. Bolton. I recently came across an article from 2007 about his journey into the game and his experiences and I think Guyana?s football is in great hands of someone who had a love for playing the game, who then turned to become a student of the game and holds some of the highest qualifications in the game.?
Nurse, who is the nation?s most successful captain added:”I think he is at an age in life, where he is still youthful, full of energy, dynamic and passionate enough to see through some endeavours than many others had previously only talked about. So I am very excited.?
Asked what Bolton’s appointment mean from a collective developmental standpoint, he said:”Things can only get better. The past two years have been rock bottom. I am optimistic the mandatory changes enforced by FIFA are essential to the development of the game in this country.?
Questioned how his appointment will influence the results of the national senior programme, Nurse said:”It has no bearing on immediate results, this appointment is something that will benefit Guyana?s football years down the line, any immediate changes are a blessing, but this change will allow seeds to be sown so the fruits can be reaped in years to come.?
Nurse further said “It is the beginning of a process, and everything good and sustainable will take time to build. Things in football take time, National Team progression is the product of years of work behinds the scenes.?
